FOCUS: SIZZLING MARKET FOR FAKE MEAT

socially-responsibleYves Veggie Cuisine, one of the biggest producers of soy-based “meat” products such as veggie pepperoni and veggie deli slices has been swallowed by Hain Celestial Group, the companies announced recently.

Hain hopes to use the respected and recognized Yves name to establish a greater presence in the exploding veggie market.

Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Yves Veggie Cuisine products include a full line of meat alternatives and cheese substitutes sold in grocery and natural food stores throughout North America.

“Yves is a proven leader in the rapidly growing category of meat and cheese alternatives,” said Irwin D. Simon, Chief Executive Officer of The Hain Celestial Group. “Together, we will maximize distribution opportunities throughout North America for Yves.”

Yves Potvin, founder and president of Yves Veggie Cuisine said the partnership will help strengthen their position in the surging soy-based foods market. Terms of the deal were not announced.

“As a part of The Hain Celestial Group, we will be able to pursue additional international growth opportunities, expanding our products and distribution to fulfill our vision of creating tasty, healthy food that meets the growing demands of our customers,” he said. “I look forward to our continued success.”

The market for fake meat is sizzling, estimated at $1.8-billion per year worldwide, according to the Financial Post. It is expected to grow at an annual rate of 25- 30 percent for the next four or five years.
