Rainforest Information

Rainforests cover only 2% of the planet, yet produce over 20% of our oxygen.  They are also the source of many important medicines and foods, such as chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla, bananas, and oranges.  Visit our rainforest facts section for more information.

Despite their amazing beauty and diversity, the rainforests are being destroyed at the rate of a football field per second.  That's right -- we lose over 50 million acres of rainforest every year.  At this rate, they will be almost completely destroyed in the next 40 years.   We have much more information about this in our rainforest destruction area.
