YOGA TIPS

<-- back to the Yoga main page

Take the mystery out of it. Yoga simplified is basically sets of stretches, positions and breathing techniques that increases flexibility, strength, balance and muscle tone.

What do I wear? It depends on what you feel comfortable in, but in general, soft stretchy clothes and bare feet are best. If you feel uncomfortable with tight clingy clothing, wear a t-shirt on top. But don't wear only a t-shirt as it will slide up and down with your bends and stretches. You may also want to bring along a towel.

Get a mat. You don't have to be a gadget master to need a yoga mat. It prevents you from slipping and makes the experience much more comfortable. A nice bonus is, you don't have to worry about how clean the floors are. We recommend organic cotton yoga mats.

Don't go hungry, but don't eat anything for about 2 hours before a yoga session. The stretches, bends and body positions will be much more comfortable if you don't come straight from dinner or breakfast.

It will get easier. If you are brand new to yoga, you will find some of the positions and stretches challenging. Your body will quickly improve if you start doing it regularly. Even moderate but consistent practice will yield great results.

Don't be afraid of yoga-speak. Yoga speak is just part of the new vernacular that is involved in almost any new hobby or activity you pick up. Many of the words are Indian or originated from India and might be hard to remember or pronounce. If in doubt - use English.

Beware of your driving. After a yoga session your mind and body will be so relaxed that your driving might suffer at first. While you're chilling in the slow lane, jus remember that stressed out commuters are whizzing around you.
